On Sunday we went skiing at Sunshine Village. The local. It was ridiculously cold, and I am so not braced for the drop in temperature we are supposed to be expecting, but it's clearly on the way. My face mask freezing half way up the first lift pretty much said it all! I haven't been skiing in a while before these last few days so it took a while for me to get back into it, and skiing when everyone else is boarding sucks! I know I keep saying it, and it's my own fault, and I need to get my arse in gear, but still - I WANT TO SNOWBOARD. And seeing how well the boys are doing is definitely some much needed encouragement.
Monday we ventured out to Lake Louise. I really love it there. Like, REALLY love it there. The runs are so long and wide and the park is cool (to watch people obviously) and the poutine is pretty damn good too! It was slightly icier there than we had hoped but it was still nice to ski somewhere that wasn't sunshine, that place gets a bit repetitive after 4 months. We then had a little siesta and the boys, Georgie and I headed out for drinks at Magpie and Stump, and $10 pizza at Bear St Tavern. We love that place! Of course we introduced everyone else to the awesomeness that is pulled pork nachos, aka heaven on a plate. Of course we were all exhausted from the last two days of full on skiing that we kind of bailed on a night out drinking and were all in bed by midnight. Crazy...
Tuesday we went back to Sunshine, the boys lapped the park a lot which I can't even bare to think about attempting to do. So I headed on home, did some errands and organised us a table at Saltlik for $10 burgers. There's a theme here with cheap meals aye. It was nice to show Tom and Rich where we work and get something good to eat for very little money. A couple of drinks, a ridiculously sized burger and I was beat. Early bedtime again. Pathetic attempts all round.
But Wednesday was the big one! We all got up begrudgingly at 6.30am and headed down the road to catch the bus to Kicking Horse. Despite the downside of the stupidly early start I was so excited to go ski somewhere new and have all of us together for the day. Will, George, Halie, Fabian, Danny and I so rarely get time off all together so we made the most of it today! After sleeping for the entire two hour journey we arrived refreshed and got into the gondola straight away. Man was it good.
Kicking Horse is an awesome resort! Although it may be famous for it's powder days, powder being something Canada as a whole are seriously lacking right now, it was pretty darn decent. Yes there may have been icy runs, but that is the same at Sunshine and Lake so it was to be expected. It took us at least 45 minutes from getting on the gondola, to getting back down to the bottom which was soooo good! Skiing for more than two minutes before getting back on a lift again is so refreshing. Of course there was one point when I may have freaked out just for a moment trying to get down a run which was beyond my ability, but I did it, eventually - and anyway, it wouldn't be a day trip without a Louise tantrum. We all know that.
So yeah, all in all a pretty bad ass week and still lots of fun things planned. In other news, thanks to the help of our boss, Danny and I managed to get two tickets to see Ed Sheeran play in Calgary in June. I am so excited, I can't quite begin to explain. He is just incredible and it's going to be awesome to see him live. Yay. But for now we're running out the door to grab something to eat and head off to our friend Greg's comedy night at the HI Hostel up the road. Fingers crossed for a few laughs...
