Today we FINALLY went to Johnston Canyon. After weeks of whinging about wanting to go whilst it's still icy, we braved the hike with no cleats and are still here to tell the tale.
It's pretty frickin cool. The walk doesn't take too long. Around 25 minutes for the Lower Falls and an hour for the Upper Falls, although it would have been a hell of a lot quicker if we had been just remotely sensible and had cleats and walking sticks or anything to aid our balance. It was pretty icy to say the least and there wasn't always a rail to hold on to, it definitely got a bit hairy at times lets just say that. But the views were worth it.
When you reach the Lower Falls you walk/slide down a little bridge and through a cave to see the waterfall which was almost completely frozen - it made for a beautiful photograph, i just wish my camera was of higher quality, even my iPhone 6 couldn't quite do it justice! But the Upper Falls is where it is all at. There is a little walkway/viewing platform which of course we climbed right over and being English, we stood there, took a few photos, had a cuppa and then wandered back home again. Delightful. I'm looking forward to heading back in the summer when it is all thawed out and we can see the difference. I'm sure it will be equally beautiful...
