Week Thirty Three.

This week has consisted mostly of work for me, which on one hand completely sucks as I have had next to no social life and slowly grown to hate the place; but on the other hand was bearable because I made good tips to put into savings to pay for us to travel around the States next Summer so it's not all complete hell. With the nice weather arriving we have had a full patio all day everyday this week and so long shifts are just part of the course. I also covered a bar shift on Friday as one of the bartenders is currently injured and I absolutely loved it. It's so nice to have some time away from the competitiveness of serving and actually enjoy a shift, not because I made money but because I liked what I was doing. It was good, a welcome change.

Besides the 12 hour shifts Danny and I have managed to make it out a couple of times, obviously revolving around food and drink. We went to Bear Street Tavern for calzone night (which I forgot to mention in the last post) and boy were they good. The pizzas there are frickin incredible so it came as no surprise that the calzones were just as delicious, if not more so.

On Saturday we went for a wander in the glorious sunshine, which if anything was too hot (I'm not complaining, plus 30 is a million times better than minus 30 that's for sure) and so we went in search of a nice patio area to enjoy a bite to eat. We settled upon the MacLab bistro at the Banff Centre which was lovely. They have big sofa's outside that surround firepits for when it gets chilly at night, and the menu was full of delicious looking meals. Danny had a swordfish nicoise salad which looked incredible, and I was a fatty and had a chicken, brie ad bacon burger with sweet potato fries and a bucket load of mayonnaise. It was excellent. It was made even better that the band for the evening's show was setting up and having a sound check so we got to check that out too! It was pretty hard to tear ourselves away and go to work.

On Sunday morning I finally FaceTimed home after what felt like months and it was so so good to speak to the crazy bunch! Libby did her usual of entertaining me with her wonderful and wild ways. She told me about her nursery trip to the zoo, read a story to me, showed me how she could play the guitar and how she could wrap Mummy and Daddy right around her little finger. It has made me very excited to book our flights and start planning our trip home. Ooh which reminds me, if anyone sees or knows a way to hire a car for three weeks for a reasonable price please let me know. At the moment, as I am under 25 years old I have to pay an additional young drivers surcharge which takes a three week rental to over £600 - not ideal I'm sure you'll agree. So yeah, any ideas let me know!

Monday and Tuesday's days off eventually rolled around and they couldn't have been any better received. Obviously the glorious sunshine we have had all week completely disappeared and turned into torrential downpours and thunderstorms which completely scuppered our original plans of visiting BC to go hang out at Emerald Lake. Instead we had a huge lie in, watched Netflix and pulled ourselves out of bed to go wander around the day for a little while. Danny headed up to the climbing gym in the evening with a couple of friends from Saltlik and had the time of his life by the sounds of it. I'm so glad that he has found a hobby for the Summer as initially the idea of not snowboarding for 6 months was pretty devastating for him. And even better, this is something he can continue throughout the winter also. Now I just need to give it a try and it's something we can enjoy together. I do feel like it's not my kind of thing at all, but only last blog post was I saying that I need to try new things and do things that scare me so I should really take my own advice and give it a go.

On Tuesday we went for afternoon tea at the Fairmont which was so so lovely as you can probably see from the previous post. It was really nice to go somewhere fancy and have as close to an English afternoon tea as you can get out here. I did wish my Mum could be there though. I always have afternoon tea with her so it was strange not to share it with her. I did of course send her pictures of every single thing on the table and in the surrounding area so she wasn't missing out on a thing. Who knows, maybe it can be another thing to tempt her out to come and visit me.

And yesterday, it was Canada Day. Our first Canada Day, and of course we were both working for most of it. Once we finally finished we watched the fireworks and had a few drinks with our friends. It was actually really fun, however the hangover right now is not fun and I'm about to head into a double shift at work. Wish me luck...
